Command and Control is a gripping non-fiction account of the Cold War era and the nuclear weapons that threatened to destroy the world. David Bruns, a former nuclear missile launch officer, provides a firsthand account of the dangers of nuclear weapons and the policies that were put in place to prevent their use.
The book begins with a harrowing account of the Cuban Missile Crisis, when the world came to the brink of nuclear war. Bruns was on duty at the time, and he vividly describes the tense atmosphere in the launch control center. He also discusses the psychological toll that the threat of nuclear war took on him and his fellow officers.
Command and Control is not just a historical account of the Cold War. It is also a warning about the dangers of nuclear weapons in the 21st century. Bruns argues that the world is still at risk of nuclear war, and he calls for a new approach to nuclear weapons policy.
Command and Control is a must-read for anyone who wants to understand the dangers of nuclear weapons and the policies that have been put in place to prevent their use. It is a gripping and thought-provoking book that will stay with you long after you finish it.
