Shuying was born in China in 1981. She was a bright and beautiful child, and I loved her more than anything in the world. But in 1990, when Shuying was just nine years old, my husband and I made the difficult decision to send her to America to live with my sister.
We made this decision because we wanted Shuying to have a better life. We knew that America was a land of opportunity, and we believed that she would have a brighter future there. But leaving Shuying behind was one of the hardest things I have ever had to do.
In her native China, my daughter Shuying experienced both a childhood of traditional Chinese culture and the tumultuous political landscape of the late 1980s and early 1990s. Now, at age nine, she leaves her familiar surroundings and embarks on a journey to a new country, a new culture, and a new school system—all while navigating the landscape of her adolescence and the culture shock that accompanies her displacement.
The following year, my husband and I were finally able to join Shuying in America. We were so happy to be reunited with her, and we were so proud of the young woman she had become. Shuying had excelled in school, and she had made many friends. She was also a talented musician, and she loved to sing and play the piano.
But Shuying's journey to America was not without its challenges. She struggled to adjust to a new culture and a new language. She also missed her friends and family in China. But Shuying never gave up. She persevered through all of her challenges, and she eventually became a successful and happy young woman.
My husband and I are so grateful to have Shuying in our lives. She is our pride and joy, and she is everything to us. We are so proud of the woman she has become, and we know that she will continue to achieve great things in her life.
I wrote this book to share Shuying's story with the world. I want people to know about the challenges and triumphs that she has faced. I want people to be inspired by her story, and I want them to know that anything is possible if you never give up on your dreams.
My Daughter's Journey to America is a story of love, loss, and triumph. It is a story of a mother's love for her daughter, and it is a story of a daughter's journey to find her place in the world.
I hope you will read My Daughter's Journey to America and be inspired by Shuying's story.
