In 2002, American journalist and author Judy Lash Balint moved to Jerusalem with her husband and two young children. She had come to the Holy City to cover the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, but she soon found herself drawn into the lives of the people who lived there.
Over the next seven years, Balint lived in a variety of neighborhoods in Jerusalem, from the ultra-Orthodox Jewish neighborhood of Mea Shearim to the Muslim Quarter of the Old City. She met with Israeli and Palestinian leaders, activists, and ordinary citizens. She listened to their stories and witnessed their struggles firsthand.
Balint's memoir, Balcony Over Jerusalem, is a powerful and moving account of her experiences in the Middle East. It is a story of love, loss, and hope. It is a story that will stay with you long after you finish reading it.
